libsndfile1-dev software package provides Development files for libsndfile; a library for reading/writing audio files, you can install in your Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install libsndfile1-dev
libsndfile1-dev is installed in your system.
Make ensure the libsndfile1-dev package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep libsndfile1-dev *
You will get with libsndfile1-dev package name, version, architecture and description in a table
